Clenney's Scottish paranormal debut is full of twisty subplots and sexy, romantic fun. Bree Kirkland opens a vault in her family's old burial grounds near Albany, N.Y., and finds a handsome, kilt-wearing Scottish warrior. Faelan claims to come from a clan charged with protecting the human race from demons, one of which turned the tables in 1860 and locked him in a time vault for 150 years. The evil spirit, Druan, is still hanging around, planning to dispatch the entire human race with a deadly virusâand Bree suspects that his human form is her ex-fiancé. Faelan is forbidden to marry outside his clan, but that doesn't stop them from falling head over heels as Bree discovers her own inner warrior. Though the story is occasionally cluttered, there's plenty to keep readers looking ahead to the sequels.

Clenneys debut, beginning a new paranormal series, showcases her ability to create an alternative modern world peopled with interesting, exciting, and compelling characters. Civil War historian and treasure seeker Bree Kirkland is shocked when she opens a crypt in her familys cemetery and an ancient Scottish Highlander jumps out at her. Faelan Connor tells Bree that he was trapped in the time crypt for 150 years by the rogue demon Druan, whom he was sent to kill. Druan has broken away from the other powerful demons tasked with inflicting war and disease on humanity. Instead, Druan wants to launch his own deadly disease and take over the world. For Faelan, the problem with finding Druan is that the demon can change his appearance and blend into society. Reluctantly, Bree agrees to help Faelan, sparking a powerful love between them.
