Returning to England following the almost obligatory Grand Tour Simon Danvers not yet in his middle years of twenty contemplates his future.
Presentable, charismatic from a wealthy family Simon is entrepreneurial by inclination and beginning to contemplate marriage. He will re-enter London society and commence his search for a wife. Not just any woman, he has a particular requirement. She must be of a passionate nature and eager bed mate. No cold woman for him. He wants many children and he wants to enjoy creating them with the right woman. Thinking everything else will fall into place.
Simon is the only child of a father who married late in life. "Marry young and fill your home with many children, hopefully whilst I live to enjoy them" his father optimistically suggests.
He discovers his idea of a perfect woman only to be unsure if she is commitment to another gentleman who unknown to anyone is the lover of his lady's cousin. He courts her with determination and with clever manipulation of the plans of her cousin manages to remove them from London to a country estate reducing the party to an intimate group of close friends where she with eager anticipation agrees to marriage that includes much passion.
Despite their passionate relationship expectations of children diminished over time leaving them with one female child and no likelihood of an heir.
Simon began to divert his energies seeking investments, employing many people, taking on the care of his Cousin Benjamin's son Devlin following the death in child birth of the boy's mother.
His butler's son Thomas has an astonishing gift with numbers. Intrigued Simon pays for the boys schooling in an agreement that Thomas will be his paid investment assistant for five years following completion of his Oxford University education.
He now has a protégé the son he longed to have. One who provides no challenge but friendship to his adored daughter.
Eventually his Grandson Andrew his possible heir. He invested much time and affection on these young men expanding his business interests over the years as he watched the lives of each unfold.
He had filled his house with children his dynasty The House of Danvers was begun.
